There is nothing of plant photography in the classic form in this illustrated book. Sven Hoffmann works almost exclusively with photos from his own collection. He has collected them over the years and now has an extensive archive that can be accessed at any time. A long process of distillation is always necessary before the finished work is created. Many works are retrieved after years and decades and digitally edited or placed in completely different contexts, additionally alienated and altered. This incessant search can be followed well here.

Time and again, Sven Hoffmann works with tensions between the hidden and the visible, evoking not just a moment, but a process and a duration. In doing so, he demystifies the aesthetics of our viewing habits. In his works, the familiar is isolated, recombined and placed in an appellative, if not aggressive, context.
